History:

In 1993 local community members identified a need for a multi-use agricultural facility to host various community and 4H events. These community members formed the Sturgeon Agriplex Society (a registered not for profit society) and began fundraising for such a facility. The mission statement for the society is: "Develop a regional agriplex facility capable of housing centralized agricultural activities".

The facility will serve as a regional agricultural center for Sturgeon County and surrounding communities including Morinville, Namao, Villeneuve, Rivierre Qui Barre and urban centers such as St. Albert and Edmonton who do not have access to such a community facility. This will potentially serve a population base of approximately 100,000 people.

The Sturgeon Agriplex project was to construct a 100' x 160' dirt floor steel structure (completed in 2008 phase one and then phase 2). This facility was constructed on the north-east corner of Cardiff Park, Cardiff, AB. This land is currently owned by Sturgeon County and its use has been committed to the Sturgeon Agriplex Society. This structure will be used primarily for agricultural and community events.

This project provided a covered building that Sturgeon County residents, associations and local 4H clubs can use. The facility will provide access to many local associations and groups improving the overall quality of infrastructure for Sturgeon County. Other uses include canine clubs, riding clubs, livestock sales, riding events and agricultural trade shows.
